How Sammy Sosa predicted Pete Crow-Armstrong on his 3-home run day for Cubs

The Chicago Cubs were bound and determined to get back on the winning track after losing three painful games in a row to the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Cincinnati Reds. Their offense woke up Saturday against the Reds, and MVP candidate Pete Crow-Armstrong was the fuse behind a 17-5 blowout win.

Crow-Armstong blasted three home runs against the Reds and has 36 home runs this season. He had four hits in six at bats and he also drove in six runs in the one-sided triumph.

Prior to the start of the game, he had a conversation with former Cubs superstar Sammy Sosa, and the record-setting slugger predicted that Crow-Armstrong would have a big day. “He told me I was going to hit three home runs today,” Crow-Armstrong said. “So, let’s put it on the record.”

The Cubs’ All-Star centerfielder led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to right center field, and red-hot Alex Bregman added a two-run homer before the inning was over.

Crow-Armstrong is competing for the National League MVP award with Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani. The Cubs outfielder made his case even stronger when he added a two-run homer in the bottom of the second. He hit his third home run of the game when he blasted a three-run shot in the seventh inning.

The Cubs pummeled six home runs in the win. In addition to Crow-Armstrong’s heroics, Bregman, Seiya Suzuki and Carson Kelly also delivered long balls for the Cubs.

The Reds were unable to keep up with the barrage, but they did get two home runs from Sal Stewart and Eugenio Suarez.

The Cubs will send Shota Imanaga to the mound Sunday night to close out the series against Reds fireballer Chase Burns.
