“The Angels organization is mourning the loss of one of our franchise’s most beloved icons, Garret Anderson. Garret was a cornerstone of our organization throughout his 15 seasons and his stoic presence in the outfield and our clubhouse elevated the Angels into an era of continued success, highlighted by the 2002 World Series championship,” the first part of Moreno’s statement reads.
Anderson spent most of his big league career with the Angels. He played with the team from 1994-2008, before playing two more seasons with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers. He retired after the 2010 season.
Overall, the outfielder earned three All-Star selections and two Silver Slugger awards. Anderson also helped the Angels win the franchise’s only World Series championship in 2002. He was inducted into the Angels’ Hall of Fame in 2016.
The Angels, who defeated the New York Yankees 11-4 on Thursday, would surely love to earn another victory on Friday night to further honor Garret Anderson.
