Hornets make dominant NBA history despite finishing with No. 9 seed in East
The second of the season for the Charlotte Hornets may be one of the best teams in the league, but they still finished with the No. 9 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Hornets turned things up on both sides of the ball, and they gave their opponents problems in almost every single game down the stretch.
In their last five games, they beat the opponents by a total of 90 points, and that added to them having the biggest average margin of victory in the league this season, which is also the biggest in NBA history at 18.1.
Their point differential during the calendar year was that of a 65-win team, and it just goes to show what they could’ve looked like if they played like that to start the season. A lot of things went right for the Hornets during the second half of the season, and health was the biggest thing. Throughout the past few seasons, and even to start this one, some of their key players dealt with injuries and it affected their play.
The starting lineup was one of the better units in the league from a net rating perspective, and it showed on the court. Kon Knueppel was a big addition to the team in his rookie season, and his shooting was paramount throughout this stretch.
Other players such as LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Miles Bridges also stepped up, and they finally looked like a cohesive group playing together.
The job isn’t done for the Hornets, as they still have to win two games to make the playoffs. The first step is trying to get past the Miami Heat, and then they’ll play the loser of the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic game.
The Hornets have proved through this stretch that can beat almost any team, and they’re doing it at a dominant level.
