Giants’ Tony Vitello teases Logan Webb’s injury return

The San Francisco Giants have been without ace Logan Webb since early May due to a knee injury. However, it may not be long before he makes his return.

Webb already feels like he is ready to re-join the rotation. Manager Tony Vitello seems completely on board with that plan, via Justice delos Santos of the Mercury News.

“Logan Webb said he feels physically ready to re-join the rotation after throwing on Friday,” delos Santos wrote. “Tony Vitello said Webb is “a good option” for the Diamondbacks series but nothing has been decided.”

The Giants still have not made a firm decision on when Webb will return. However, he was able to throw 62 pitches in a rehab start at the Triple-A level on Friday. San Francisco’s doctors will ultimately decide if Webb’s knee is fully cleared. But pitcher and manager are ready for the right-hander to make his return.

When healthy, the 2026 season hasn’t been kind to Webb; that’s true of plenty of current Giants players to be fair. But over his eight starts, the righty holds a 5.06 ERA and a 42/15 K/BB ratio. Perhaps the knee injury was the core root of his problems. The Giants are well aware Webb has much more to offer.

He is coming off of a 2025 campaign that saw him earn his second-straight All-Star award. Webb pitched to a 3.22 ERA and a NL-leading 224 strikeouts compared to 46 walks over a MLB-high 34 starts.

When the right-hander returns to the mound, he’ll have an opportunity to prove he is still one of the better pitchers in the league. And if it were up to Webb and Vitello, that return would come sooner rather than later.
