Lions’ Dan Campbell’s feeling ‘pretty good’ about RB depth after beating Commanders

The Detroit Lions are intent on getting back to the form they showed in 2024 when they won the NFC North title and were the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff structure. They were favored to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl last year, but injuries and inconsistency prevented that from happening.

The Lions finished the season with a 9-8 record that left them in last place in the division and out of the playoffs. That last-place finish a year ago could pay dividends this season as the Lions get the benefit of a schedule that is theoretically quite a bit easier than their NFC North rivals.

The Lions are coming off a 17-13 victory over the Washington Commanders in their second preseason game, and head coach Dan Campbell feels good about his team’s ability to bounce back this season.

He was happy with what he saw from his team’s running game against the Commanders, and he thinks that is going to be a strength as the season progresses.

“These guys, I thought they ran hard,” Campbell said after the game, per Sports Illustrated. “I thought they saw it. They just kept pushing the pile. It was already interesting. It feels very interesting right now, especially after that performance. I thought we moved them up front with the offensive line.”

Quarterback Josh Dobbs led the way for Lions as he scored on a 50-yard TD run in the first quarter. He finished the game with 53 yards on 2 carries. Lions RB Trayveon Williams had 10 carries for 36 yards and also had a touchdown.
