Jackson went down while attempting to make a tackle on the opening kickoff of Philadelphia’s preseason matchup against the New England Patriots in Foxborough. He remained motionless on the turf after diving in to bring down New England’s returner, prompting medical personnel from both teams to rush onto the field almost immediately. Trainers quickly called for a backboard, and both sidelines gathered near the scene as Jackson was strapped onto a stretcher.
Players from both the Eagles and Patriots took a knee in support as Jackson was loaded onto the stretcher, creating a somber pause just moments into the contest. An ambulance was then driven onto the field to transport him off, with the Eagles’ entire sideline coming out to be with their teammate before he was taken away.
In a statement released shortly after, the Eagles confirmed that Jackson “has strength and movement in all extremities” and was being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. That update offered some relief to fans and teammates alike after the frightening scene, with reports noting Jackson was even seen briefly raising his left arm before being loaded into the ambulance.
Play resumed a few minutes later, though the extended stoppage left a somber mood hanging over the rest of the preseason game. The Eagles have not yet disclosed the specific nature of Jackson’s injury, and further updates are expected once he completes evaluation at the hospital.
Jackson, 24, is in his first season with the Eagles after signing with the team on August 10 to help fill a running back room thinned by injuries to Dameon Pierce and Elijah Mitchell. The Arkansas product had previously been with the Jacksonville Jaguars before being waived in May. He was primarily viewed as a preseason depth piece and special-teams contributor before Saturday’s frightening scare.
The Eagles are expected to provide further updates on Jackson’s condition as more information becomes available from doctors evaluating him at the hospital.
