Mariners’ Randy Arozarena walks off the Cubs with 2-run homer

Randy Arozarena is one month removed from his epic Fourth of July Grand Slam over Toronto. He swung back to stardom on Saturday. This time walking off his Seattle Mariners against the Chicago Cubs.

Arozarena pounded this ball over the center field fence, while facing the final out in sealing the 5-4 home win.

Arozarena faced an early one-strike count after swinging and missing on an 85 miles per hour slider. But the right-handed batter punished the second slider, sending the ball 404 feet into the air for the game-winner. Leo Rivas scored in the process as he stood on third base before Arozarena’s smash.

The 31-year-old blasted his second homer since Aug. 16, which came against the Houston Astros. But he also entered Saturday’s contest with this notable trend: Going hitless every other game since that home run rip versus Houston.

But Saturday presented a far different outcome, as Arozarena produced three hits total. And that walk-off homer wasn’t his only deep blast of the game.

Arozarena pounded the ball on the very first pitch he faced in the first; a 93 mph sinker that flew 416 feet over center field, giving Seattle the early 1-0 lead. The franchise conformed he’s the first player in Mariners history to blast the leadoff and walk-off home run in the same game.

He alter reached on an infield single toward third that loaded the bases during the bottom of the fifth. Seattle eventually broke the 1-1 tie off Dominic Canzone’s grounder that became a fielder’s choice.

Chicago led 4-2 for three innings between the sixth to the ninth. Rivas smashed an RBI that cut the lead to 4-3 before the Arozarena heroics. Seattle is now 62-68 overall.
