Giants GM Joe Schoen’s son reacts to ‘ring chaser’ dad’s contract extension

While the decision has been polarizing to fans, the New York Giants gave Joe Schoen a contract extension, and his son, Carson, is thrilled.

His son, a high school quarterback, responded to Mike Garafolo’s post on X, formerly Twitter, about the news. He said, “Proud of you dad!! Ring chasing [wedding ring emoji].”

It’s natural for kids to be proud of their dads. Schoen has been trying to help turn the Giants around, and the executives appear pleased with his progress.

Joe Schoen’s contract extension with the Giants

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Schoen signed a multi-year extension with the Giants. This comes ahead of John Harbaugh’s first season with the team as the head coach.

All signs point to the general manager’s job being safe, at least for the time being. He has been scrutinized by fans in the past, largely due to his handling of the Saquon Barkley situation and drafting disappointments like Deonte Banks and Evan Neal.

However, he has also made some promising moves, like drafting the apparent quarterback of the future, Jaxson Dart, in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He had to trade back into the first round to select him.

Additionally, Schoen has drafted studs like Malik Nabers and Abdul Carter. He recently traded the disgruntled Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2026 offseason as well.

Now, the Giants team that Schoen has assembled will have to show results on the field. Winning off the field is one thing, but winning on the field is another.

Before joining Big Blue, Schoen was the assistant general manager of the Buffalo Bills from 2017 to 2021, working with Brian Daboll, who would become the Giants’ head coach later. Schoen and Daboll joined the Giants together in 2022, and only one of them remains with the team now.
