Giants CB Greg Newsome II delivers final word on Cam Skattebo fight that nukes any hint of beef

The New York Giants have some high expectations for the 2026 NFL season. New York should be a lot better on defense after making a series of big additions this offseason. The Giants got a bit chippy during a recent practice, but they aren’t letting it get to their heads before the regular season.

Giants cornerback Greg Newsome II dispelled any hint of a beef with teammate Cam Skattebo after their recent fight.

“Oh man you know, like I said, brothers fight. We were cool right after it,” Newsome told reporters on Wednesday. “Me and Scat, that’s my guy. I like the energy. If you can’t do this with your teammates and be cool in two seconds then that’s not the mark of a great team. You got to have the energy, you got to have that competitiveness. So no, that’s my guy.”

Skattebo sparked the fight during practice last week after sliding down following a play. He reportedly came very close to taking out multiple Giants defenders by the legs as a result. Remember, Giants defenders were not allowed to hit during practice, so they technically had no recourse for Skattebo’s physicality. The second-year running back also ran over linebacker Zaire Barnes in a previous practice.

It is understandable why New York’s defensive players could temporarily be upset with Skattebo’s passionate practicing. However, it seems clear that nobody is still upset about the incident. Giants offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor pushed back on the narrative that the defense is mad at Skattebo not long afterward.

Newsome also took the opportunity to praise Skattebo’s abilities as a running back during the same interview.

“Yeah I think Scat can do a lot of things. Obviously people see him as a big meathead, run through people, but he can do a lot of things very well on the football field,” Newsome added.

It will be exciting to see how New York performs during John Harbaugh’s first season as head coach this fall.

The Giants will host the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football to kick off the 2026 regular season.
