Anonymous NBA player thinks Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard got off light with investigation punishment

Board man gets punished. The NBA meted out a fine of $700,ooo to Kawhi Leonard for his role in the Los Angeles Clippers’ circumvention of the salary cap through questionable deals with a now-defunct sustainability company in 2022.

Just when you thought the Clippers could not get any worse in terms of head-scratching decisions, here came the huge controversy, which the NBA investigated for almost a year.

Fortunately for the 35-year-old Leonard, he was not suspended by the league, unlike Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, president of business operations Gillian Zucker, and president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank. The Clippers were also fined $30 million and forced to forfeit five first-round draft picks, practically a death blow to the franchise.

In a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Kelly Iko, an unnamed player said the two-time Finals MVP got a slap on the wrist.

“I think it could have been worse. Seven hundred thousand dollars is probably nothing to (Leonard), so he can just pay it and get back to playing. He didn’t get suspended or anything. Be careful. Watch what you got going on,” said the unnamed source.

Leonard has a net worth of approximately $120 million to $160 million.

In a statement, Leonard owned up to the “lapses in judgment” of the people in his inner circle.

“For 15 years, my priority has been giving everything to my family, the game, and those I share the court with. As I return to Toronto, I am focused on what I can control, closing this chapter, and moving forward with a clean slate,” stated the seven-time All-Star.

Since he was not suspended, his trade to the Toronto Raptors will likely push through. The Clippers sent Leonard to the Raptors in exchange for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, and draft capital.
