Former WWE veterans The New Day’s next move will fire AEW fans up
Just a few days after the successful WWE WrestleMania 42 PLE in Las Vegas, Nevada, WWE released several of its wrestlers, including Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, and Kairi Sane, to the even more shocking names of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.
Black, Vega, and Sane were relatively new when compared to Woods and Kingston. The New Day had been a part of the WWE for over a decade and had remained with the promotion through everything. However, after reports emerged about WWE and TKO asking the veterans to restructure their contracts, a mutual decision was made to part ways.
Now, according to a recent report by Fightful Select, people within AEW want Woods and Kingston to sign with All Elite Wrestling. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that nearly a dozen of their sources interviewed desired to see the tag team sign with AEW. Although they usually anticipate a single objection to the idea, no such objection has been raised so far.
Fightful Select also stated that every AEW insider they spoke to was on board with having Woods and Kingston join AEW. “A number of big names in AEW were making an internal push for the two to end up there,” the report further claimed. Fightful Select also added that Woods and Kingston are “universally respected” and are highly expected to join hands with Tony Khan’s promotion once their 90-day no-compete clause ends.
Former multi-time champions and WWE veterans, Kingston and Woods, have not yet officially commented or shared any details about their exit or future expectations. The two are now scheduled to appear at GalaxyCon in May. 22, 2026, through May 24 at the Oklahoma City Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Although they have only been announced to appear on Saturday, May. 23 and Sunday, May. 24, 2026.
