Dodgers’ Blake Snell shares huge injury update after beginning season on IL

Blake Snell has yet to make his 2026 debut after the Los Angeles Dodgers placed him on the 15-day IL due to an injury in his left shoulder. His latest update on Friday sparks good news about his eventual return to the mound.

Initial reports claimed that the 33-year-old left-hander was going to face hitters after the Dodgers’ latest road trip. Those claims are true, as Snell confirmed he will be facing hitters during a live session for the first time since suffering the shoulder injury, according to Jack Harris of the California Post.

“Blake Snell said he’s scheduled to throw his live before tomorrow’s game,” reported Harris. “Will be his first time facing hitters this year.”

The two-time Cy Young Award winner likely won’t return to the Dodgers’ rotation until near the end of May. Snell is working his way back from shoulder fatigue. It’s the same issue he was dealing with that forced him to miss several games in the 2025 campaign.

Los Angeles will continue relying on a rotation consisting of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani, Emmet Sheehan, Roki Sasaki, and Justin Wrobleski. When Snell does finally come back, he will be playing in his 11th MLB season, and his second with the Dodgers.

Despite the injury, Blake Snell proved to be a reliable option in L.A.’s pitching group. He finished last season with a .235 ERA and 1.255 WHIP while totaling 72 strikeouts through 61.1 innings pitched. Los Angeles will hope he can return to that level of production when he finally comes off the IL.
