Devils rumors: Productive New Jersey rookie looking for long-term extension

The New Jersey Devils have some decisions to make this offseason, including which players to consider signing. Now, there are reports that a Devils’ rookie will be looking for a long-term contract extension this offseason, according to James Nichols of Sportsnaut.

“Arsent Gritsyuk is seeking a multi-year contract extension with the New Jersey Devils, New Jersey Hockey Now has learned. Fresh off a solid rookie NHL campaign in which he recorded 13 goals and 31 points in 66 games, the 25-year-old Russian winger is looking to capitalize on his strong first season in North America,” Nichols wrote.

The winger is reportedly looking for a deal that extends beyond two years. He is currently on a one-year entry-level contract that will expire on July 1. Gritsyuk spent multiple seasons in the KHL after being drafted in 2019 before finally signing with the Devils in May 2025.

With the Devils making some changes in the coaching room, there will be other upgrades and changes. Notably, Gritsyuk provided some grit while making some plays for his team in his first opportunity. The Devils hope to make the playoffs after missing them this season. Ultimately, they may decide to bring back Gritsyuk if the price is right.

Gritsyuk spent the majority of the season gravitating between the third and fourth lines. When the season ended, he was on the line with Cody Glass and Stefan Noesen. Gritsyuk provides great depth for the Devils and could be an option to return should they decide so. He is a restricted free agent, which means that any team could match an offer that New Jersey provides him.
