Ravens’ Lamar Jackson headlines group of captains after changeup from John Harbaugh era

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are on a mission to return to elite status. Embracing new leadership under Jesse Minter, the squad now has an official set of captains going into the 2026 NFL season.

Jackson gears up for Year 9 of his NFL career with the Ravens. Having won two MVP awards to date, he hopes to finally lead Baltimore to an appearance in the Super Bowl.

Baltimore used to rotate captains throughout its time with John Harbaugh at the helm. They did that for each game, allowing other players to lead their respective sides of the ball.

However, it will be different going into this season with Minter in charge. Baltimore will have five players embrace captainship for the entire season, which includes Jackson as the headliner.

“The Ravens announced five season-long captains: QB Lamar Jackson, S Kyle Hamilton, LB Roquan Smith, DE Calais Campbell, RB Derrick Henry. Under John Harbaugh, the Ravens had rotated captains for each game,” reporter Jamison Hensley wrote.

What lies ahead for Lamar Jackson, Ravens this season

Lamar Jackson shines as one of the top players in the league when healthy. The Ravens are counting on him to deliver big performances in crucial games, paving the way for a new era in the city as Jesse Minter takes over John Harbaugh’s place as head coach.

Jackson missed several games last season, suffering an overall dip in performance. In the 13 games he played, he completed 192 passes for 2,549 yards and 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Ravens will look to improve upon their 8–9 record from 2025. They also intend to return to the playoffs after a one-year absence and reclaim the AFC North title.

Baltimore’s regular season will get underway on the road. They take on the Indianapolis Colts as kickoff commences on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. ET.
