New Angels owner planning to keep team in Anaheim
With Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke buying the Los Angeles Angels from Arte Moreno, there is no doubt that a lot of speculation now surrounds where the baseball team will play and whether they will stay in Anaheim, California. As the sale of the Angels marks another team with Los Angeles in the name for Kroenke, this MLB insider is not convinced that he wants to move the team away from Anaheim.
While the team is called the Los Angeles Angels, they play in Anaheim, as it was asked to Ken Rosenthal whether, if Kroenke doesn’t get a new ballpark in the city, he would consider moving the team to Los Angeles. While Rosenthal would express that “anything’s possible,” he states that Kroenke wants the ball club to be in Anaheim.
“And I know there’s been speculation already to put a team up in that area, but it seems to me, and when I mean that area, the SoFi area in LA,” Rosenthal said. “It seems to me, though, that he wants a team in Anaheim. He wants them there. There’s a good amount of distance from Los Angeles. It’s a separate market in so many ways. So the idea of moving it, yeah, he might use that as a threat to get what he wants in Anaheim. But to me, the deal is in Anaheim.”
“And for people who haven’t been in that stadium, that stadium is in an area where you can build quite a bit around it. There’s some space there,” Rosenthal continued. “So therefore, not only is the stadium a goldmine, the surrounding area is a goldmine, and bingo, here we go.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen what future developments look like for Kroenke and the Angels.
