Cowboys’ Dak Prescott keeps it 100% real with mature mindset for 2026 season

Dak Prescott isn’t looking to reinvent himself entering the 2026 season. Instead, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback wants to become even better at controlling the game.

Via Jon Machota on X, when asked where he can improve, Prescott pointed toward the mental side of playing quarterback and understanding how every decision impacts the rest of the team.

“Every part of the game. I just think the more that you play, sometimes it gets easier to see things coming. But that doesn’t allow me to know exactly what’s about to happen. So really just staying in the moment, staying where my feet are, not trying to hit a home run each and every play. But just playing the play individually, understanding that every decision I make has an effect on the whole team. So it’s not just one area.”

That’s the type of veteran mentality Dallas needs from its quarterback.

Prescott was excellent individually in 2025, throwing for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns while starting all 17 games. The Cowboys’ offense was dangerous throughout the season, but that production didn’t translate into enough team success as Dallas finished 7-9-1 and missed the playoffs.

CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens give Prescott one of the NFL’s most dangerous receiving duos, while Javonte Williams returns after rushing for more than 1,200 yards last season. KaVontae Turpin adds another explosive element to the unit.

Prescott knows how good Dallas can be offensively. But after another strong statistical season ended without a playoff appearance, simply putting up numbers isn’t enough anymore.

“Last year was a good year, but I want to be better than that,” Prescott said.

For the Cowboys to return to the postseason, that mindset is a pretty good place to start.
