Barstool Sports emerges as a possible destination

Russini left The Athletic on April 14 after Page Six published photos of her with Patriots coach Mike Vrabel at an Arizona resort. The outlet’s investigation concluded that she violated company standards by failing to disclose their personal relationship.

However, investigators found little indication that the relationship shaped her reporting. The review covered 903 articles, 77 videos, 204 “Scoop City” podcast episodes and 25 outside appearances. The Athletic added editor’s notes to four pieces but found no clear effort to use her platform to benefit Vrabel.

Barstool Sports currently stands out as a leading possibility. Russini has relationships with “Pardon My Take” hosts Dan “Big Cat” Katz and PFT Commenter, while Dave Portnoy publicly called hiring her a “no-brainer.”

Fox Sports Radio host Jon “Stugotz” Weiner has also offered Russini a permanent place on his show whenever she wants it.

Russini has not revealed her choice. Still, the investigation’s findings, combined with the approaching season, give her potential return a clearer runway. The question surrounding her career no longer appears to be whether she will return, but which platform will introduce her next chapter.
