Giants boost defense by signing ex-Steelers linebacker

The New York Giants are getting prepared to start their season against the Dallas Cowboys, and they’re still rounding out their roster before the game. With the 53-man roster already set, they’ve recently signed someone to add to their practice squad, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Free agent LB Malik Harrison is signing with the Giants practice squad with the goal to contribute early, per sources. The seven-year vet, released by Pittsburgh on Sunday, has 215 career tackles and 43 starts,” Fowler wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

This is a player who has experience playing under head coach John Harbaugh, as he was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020. He played his first five seasons with the Ravens before signing with the Steelers in 2025. In six seasons, he’s totaled 215 tackles, 2.0 sacks and nine tackles for loss.

With Harrison set to contribute early in the season, that must mean they plan to sign him to the active roster at some point.

The Giants’ defense improved this offseason, and they used their first-round draft pick on Arvell Reese. He’ll be key to an already young defense, and Kayvon Thibodeaux spoke highly of the group on the Pat McAfee Show.

“We had a solid training camp and we got a lot of work done.. We got a lot better as a team,” Thibodeaux said.

Thibodeaux was talking about the team as a whole, and outside of the defense, the offense should take strides this season as well. Jaxson Dart will be heading into his second year in the league, and with options such as Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, Isaiah Likely and others, they should make his life easier.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Giants perform this season, and Harbaugh will have them prepared.
