‘Toothless’ Premier League side warned of relegation threat after ‘uninspiring’ transfer window

Fulham are heading towards Premier League relegation and showed a lack of motivation in the summer transfer window.

That’s the view of talkSPORT host Max Scott as the west London side bemoan a worrying start to the season with two defeats in two.

After a 3-2 home loss to local rivals Chelsea, Sunderland beat Fulham 1-0 on Sunday to ensure they remain without a point in the league.

With Liverpool and Manchester United two of their upcoming tests, new boss Alvaro Arbeloa faces an uphill climb at Craven Cottage.

But, even with 36 more games to play this season, Scott can only see one outcome for the Cottagers – relegation to the Championship.

Speaking on NO BS for talkSPORT, he explained why he tipped Fulham to finish in the bottom three of the Premier League amid their poor start.

“We’re going to talk about Sunderland v Fulham,” Scott said.

“For me, it was a relegation six-pointer. I have backed Hull, Sunderland and Fulham to go down.

“I’m questioning Hull, I’m not so sure about Sunderland, I still think they’re going to be down there. Fulham? They’re absolute goners.”

Co-host Olly Clink labelled the Cottagers ‘terrible’ as Scott continued: “Limp-wristed, and no wonder Arbeloa has already lost his rag in his post-match comments after the game.

“I just think… I know this sounds harsh, but what are Fulham?”

Do Fulham regret losing Marco Silva?

Scott once again tipped Fulham for the drop, and then questioned why the club didn’t do enough to keep former manager Silva.

The Portuguese left at the end of last season amid the expiration of his contract in June and is now at Benfica, where has won six of his nine games in charge.

Arbeloa replaced him following a spell at Real Madrid, but it’s his predecessor who Scott believes that Fulham should have backed.

Max Scott labels Fulham a ‘waste of space’

“Just toothless,” Scott said.

“I think, what are they doing not throwing the money at Marco Silva? They have a lot of money in the bank, their owner (Shahid Khan) does. Their stadium, the amount of money they charge Fulham fans…

“They’re a waste of space. Give it to Birmingham, give it to Wrexham, that spot, give it to a big club like Sheffield Wednesday in a couple of years if they can get there.

“I just think Fulham are a bit boring. I would never tune into a Fulham game, because Fulham are playing. I would tune into watch Forest play them… I’m just a bit bored of them.

“And their window has been so uninspiring as well.”

“It’s a lovely ground,” he added. “I’ve heard from a few players that they really like playing at Fulham, because you don’t get the pressure.

“But sometimes, pressure creates diamonds, and there’s no diamonds at Fulham at the minute.

“I think they miss the edge that Marco Silva brings, I think they failed to support him adequately in the window, and no wonder he’s gone to Benfica.

“If he had been supported, they should have been playing European football and that would have then elevated the club in terms of revenue, players, being an attractive proposition.

“Now, I think they’re just going to pale into insignificance in the Premier League and get relegated.”
