Yankees’ Anthony Volpe suffers forearm injury during Triple-A game

The New York Yankees have been playing some solid baseball of late, recently picking up a road win over the Los Angeles Angels to move themselves 20 games over the .500 mark at 80-60. Meanwhile, young star Anthony Volpe has been in the minor leagues of late, racking up more experience, with the MLB playoffs quickly approaching.

On Thursday, the Yankees got a worrisome injury update regarding Volpe.

“Anthony Volpe left last night’s game in Triple A with a right forearm contusion, a source tells ESPN. He was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning and initially stayed in the game, stealing a base and lining out in his next at-bat before he exited in the sixth inning,” reported Jorge Castillo of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

Castillo also reported that “Volpe made his third start at third base last night and went 2 for 3 with a double and the HBP. He’s batting .276 with a .632 slugging percentage and 1.008 OPS in 23 games since being sent down in early August.”

Volpe had indeed been struggling at the MLB level over the summer, prompting his demotion to the minor leagues, and fans will certainly hope that the contusion he suffered during Wednesday’s Triple A game is nothing serious.

At this point, it’s unclear if the Yankees have Volpe in their plans for the upcoming postseason, but the team has certainly adopted an all hands on deck attitude with superstar Aaron Judge missing the majority of this season due to a ribcage injury.

In any case, the Yankees will next hit the field on Friday evening for the first game of a weekend series vs the San Diego Padres on the road.
