Colts’ Keenan Allen breaks silence on arrest right before season

Recently, the Indianapolis Colts got some rough news when wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The news comes just days before the Colts are slated to get their 2026 NFL season underway.

Allen is still expected to play in the team’s season opener as the legal process plays out, and now, the veteran has given a brief statement about the incident.

“Because it’s an ongoing legal matter, we’re not going to discuss it,” Allen said, per Joel A. Erickson of IndyStar. “I’m just focused on football and being a good teammate.”

He was also asked about what conversations between himself and the team have looked like in the wake of the arrest.

“I’m going to keep those discussions in-house, just focus on being a good football player and getting ready for the season,” Allen said.

Allen signed with the Colts during training camp this year, hoping to prove that he can still be a productive receiver at the age of 34 after having carved out a very strong career for himself over the years.

Meanwhile, Colts general manager Chris Ballard had Keenan’s back when talking about the incident.

“I’m not going to comment on what happened, but what I’m going to tell you is good people make mistakes,” he said. “He’s a tremendous human being. Give him some grace, and he’ll work through the process of the legal system.”

At this point, it’s unclear how long this case may take to resolve or what ramifications could follow on the football field.

The Colts are slated to kick off their new season on September 13 vs the Baltimore Ravens.
