Texas Tech booster warns opponents about ‘retribution’ for Brendan Sorsby heat
Former Texas Tech football quarterback Brendan Sorsby thrusted himself back into the national spotlight. He explains his side of the gambling controversy during his appearance on Paramount +’s “The Program,” released before Labor Day weekend.
Yet one TTU booster warns of “retribution” coming toward the Red Raiders.
Prominent booster and former Red Raiders player Cody Campbell appeared during the four-part documentary too. Campbell is responsible for helping lead the NIL efforts of the Lubbock university.
But he also believes opponents will take aim at TTU over the Sorsby controversy.
“We’re not going to forget about that, and I don’t think they’ll forget about it either when we’re up by 40 and still throwing the ball in the fourth quarter,” Campbell said via a transcript posted online. “That’s where the retribution will come.”
Campbell blasts the thought of TTU doing anything wrong regarding how it handled the issue. Yet also believes the situation could’ve been “handled much more privately.”
Sorsby is more than likely going to remain a punchline for opposing signs this fall. Especially as fans will attempt to rattle the psyche of the reigning Big 12 champs. Meanwhile, Big 12 rival Cincinnati is off the hook on the Sorsby issue, as the QB last played for the Bearcats.
The dual-threat passer rose as a prominent College Football Transfer Portal addition following TTU’s surprise postseason run. His addition left many around the campus believing a national title chase would become imminent. But Sorsby won’t play a down this season for TTU or head coach Joey McGuire amid his fallout from his gambling addiction.
