Cubs’ Craig Counsell credits Alex Bregman’s ‘relentless’ grind after record-breaking win

The Chicago Cubs took on the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday in a clash of elite National League teams. However, only one of these teams showed up to play at Wrigley Field. Alex Bregman and the Cubs dismantled the Brewers, dropping 17 runs on Milwaukee’s head.

Chicago clobbered nine home runs in this contest, as well. Bregman led the charge for Chicago, hitting three long balls himself in the 17-3 victory. After the game, manager Craig Counsell spoke about the behind-the-scenes work that makes Bregman the special player he is.

“He is relentless in his preparation and his daily grind. He just is relentless. And he kind of teaches you that this is who he is. At some point, he sent a message to me, and I went, ‘I get it now.’ This is how it works. This is how he does it, and it’s impressive,” the Cubs manager said, via Marquee Sports Network.

Bregman now has 23 home runs on the season following this game against the Brewers. It’s been a successful debut season in Chicago for the veteran infielder, as well. He has helped the Cubs push for postseason baseball and establish themselves as a potential World Series contender.

The Cubs needed this win over the Brewers, and they made a statement on Monday. However, this season is not done just yet. The calendar is flipping to September, and that means these games become increasingly important. The Cubs continue their series with the Brewers on Tuesday night in Chicago at Wrigley Field.
