Mariners’ Cal Raleigh pulls off ultra-rare MLB feat vs. Red Sox

It has not been an easy 2026 MLB season so far for Seattle Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh, but he’s still very much capable of launching balls into the stratosphere.

Raleigh showed off his power again at the plate on Monday, as he cleared the Green Monster at Fenway Park in Boston against the Boston Red Sox with a big swing in the seventh inning of the series opener.

The solo blast off a 95 mph sinker from Red Sox reliever Erik Miller stretched the Mariners’ lead to three runs.

It also put Raleigh in an extremely exclusive catcher club with Mike Piazza as the only other member in MLB history.

“Cal Raleigh is the second catcher in MLB history with 5 seasons of 20+ home runs in his first 6 career seasons, joining Mike Piazza,” Sarah Langs of MLB.com shared via a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).

The only other season so far in Raleigh’s career that he failed to muster at least 20 dingers was in 2021 — his first in the big leagues. He had only two home runs that year, though he played only 47 games. Since then, he’s become quite a producer of home runs. Of course, no one is forgetting his unbelievable 2025 campaign in which he hit 60 home runs to lead the majors, while finishing second in the American League Most Valuable Player Award voting.

Unfortunately for Raleigh and the Mariners, his home run against the Red Sox went for naught, as Boston came away with a 9-8 win in extra innings. The Mariners are now on a five-game losing streak amid their chase for a playoff spot.
