Texans sign ex-Bengals WR to practice squad

The Houston Texans had an encouraging campaign last season, finishing at 12-5, their best record since 2012. Three years into the era of coach DeMeco Ryans, the Texans have transformed from a directionless franchise into a legitimate contender.

The challenge now for Houston is how to build on its momentum. There will be higher expectations in the upcoming season, especially on the defense, which was one of the NFL’s best last year. Quarterback CJ Stroud, meanwhile, will be tasked with carrying the offense once again, wth the arrival of running back David Montgomery being a big boost.

On Monday, the Texans added another potential weapon, signing wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley to the practice squad after being cut by the Cincinnati Bengals, as reported by The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov.

“Tinsley had eight catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns last season, and drew interest from several teams after Cincinnati moved on due to its deep WR room,” wrote Meirov.

Tinsley has a good chance to be activated to the regular roster, as Houston will always welcome a possible target for Stroud. As of now, the 26-year-old Tinsley has a lot of catching up to do and to get his feet wet with the practice squad.

The Texans are his third team after also suiting up for the Washington Commanders. He went undrafted in 2023 out of Penn State before the Commanders picked him up.

Recently, Houston bolstered its receiving unit after acquiring Kayshon Boutte in a trade with the New England Patriots.

The Texans will face the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.
