Cubs break all-time franchise record with 9-home-run game vs. Brewers

Over the course of a regular season that spans nearly six months and 162 days, teams are bound to go through a ton of ups and downs. There are some nights where nothing seems to be working, and then there are days where teams can simply do no wrong. On Sunday, the Chicago Cubs were in bedlam, with the whole team clicking all game long. In fact, they hit nine home runs total as a team in a 17-3 demolition of the NL Central leader Milwaukee Brewers.

Alex Bregman was the star of the show for the Cubs on Sunday, as he went yard for all three of his hits in six at-bats in their blowout victory over the Brewers. Six other players joined Bregman on the home run column of the box score, with Michael Conforto, Seiya Suzuki, Tyrone Taylor, Nico Hoerner, Carson Kelly, and Matt Shaw all hitting a dinger each as well.

With this impressive offensive display, the Cubs set a new record for most home runs in a single game in franchise history, as per the team’s official account on X.

The Cubs’ offense as of late has taken off to a whole new level. They’ve scored at least 17 runs in three of their past eight games, with one of those games being a 19-run outing against the Seattle Mariners.

They didn’t even need NL MVP candidate Pete Crow-Armstrong to be at his best on Sunday to put together this incredible scoring night. Crow-Armstrong has been on fire from the plate, and Bregman has been following his lead.

According to OptaSTATS, Crow-Armstrong and Bregman became the first MLB duo to combine for at least 25 home runs, 25 walks, 50 runs batted in, and 50 runs scored in a single calendar month since Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, the legendary New York Yankees sluggers, did so 65 years ago.

The Cubs appear to be peaking at the right time, with the postseason inching closer and closer.
