Craig Counsell credits Alex Bregman for driving the bus vs. Nationals

The Chicago Cubs notched their third straight victory with a 12-6 win over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. Alex Bregman’s three home runs were a major factor.

After the game, manager Craig Counsell specifically praised Bregman as the guy who “drove the bus,” per Marquee Sports Network.

“(Bregman) definitely drove the bus today … you can’t fake it through 162 games … it’s a credit to how he works every single day,” Counsell said. “Just relentless with his search to be himself and to be the best version of himself. He will never give you an inch on that.”

Overall, Bregman was 3-for-3 with 7 RBIs. All in all, it was a career best.

With the win, the Cubs now stand at 71-50 and are three games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central Division. Additionally, the Cubs have won eight out of their last ten games. At this point, they need Bregman to keep swinging the bats as he did Wednesday.

Bregman is batting .251 with 117 hits, 13 home runs, and 54 RBIs.

In January, Bregman signed a five-year $175 million deal with Chicago after playing with the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox. He has a vast array of playoff experience with the Astros, including winning two World Series titles in 2017 and 2022.

The Cubs are looking to secure a playoff spot after an up-and-down season. Last year, the Cubs clinched a Wild Card spot and defeated the San Diego Padres. Ultimately, the Cubs lost to the Brewers in the NLDS.

Chicago will finish the series against Washington on Thursday at 3:05 pm CST/4:05 pm EST at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
