Reds’ Terry Francona gets 100% real on ugly game vs. Luis Castillo, White Sox

The Cincinnati Reds are near the bottom of the National League Central as the season nears its end. Cincinnati needs to find a way to string together wins if they wish to make the playoffs. Unfortunately, Terry Francona watched as Chicago White Sox starter Luis Castillo dominated his ballclub on Wednesday night.

Castillo was masterful on Wednesday, allowing just one hit against him. He struck out 10 batters in seven innings pitched as the White Sox took down the Reds. Offensively, Chicago got home runs from Chase Meidroth and Drew Romo to fuel a 5-0 win. After the game, Francona could not paint a positive picture of the outing.

“(Castillo) established right from the very first hitter of the game the changeup he was going to use. He used it early, he used it late, 3-2 multiple times, and with the crispness of his fastball it really gave us a tough time,” the Reds manager said, via Chatterbox Sports.

The Reds have hit a wall after an impressive four-game winning streak. Cincinnati has now lost four of its last five games and is second-last in the NL Central. They are now five-and-a-half games back of the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks for the final NL Wild Card spot. In the Central, they are 16 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers.

It was certainly a night to forget for the Reds on Wednesday. Cincinnati is going to need to figure something out soon if they wish to make the playoffs in 2026. They will look to salvage a series victory over the White Sox on Thursday afternoon.
