Myles Lewis-Skelly keeps fans guessing with Arsenal goal celebration as Mikel Arteta responds to question on transfer speculation

Mikel Arteta says Myles Lewis-Skelly being linked with other clubs is a ‘good sign’ after the Arsenal star’s cryptic celebration on Wednesday night.

Lewis-Skelly appeared to send a message to Arsenal fans after his goal during a pre-season friendly at home to Como.

It came a day after talkSPORT revealed the versatile youngster had been offered to multiple Premier League clubs by the Gunners.

The 19-year-old found the target against Como at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night to open the scoring in the first half.

Como later equalised through Martin Baturina before half-time as the match ended 1-1.

Arsenal message?

Although Arsenal went on to win 4-3 on penalties, it was Lewis-Skelly’s goal celebration which caught the attention of the fans.

The teenager gestured to the home fans before being congratulated by his teammates.

Footage captured from the stands appeared to show him apologising as he held up his hands before making a heart gesture.

Lewis-Skelly also tapped the Arsenal badge on his shirt before walking back towards his own half.

His reaction to scoring follows rising speculation over a potential exit from the Premier League champions.

One fan asked: “Is he saying bye?”

Another added: “Myles Lewis-Skelly celebrates by apologising to the Arsenal fans before throwing up a heart with his hands. One of our own, forever.”

While this decisive fan declared: “He is going nowhere.”

Arteta addresses Lewis-Skelly reports

Despite being encouraged by his player being in demand, Arteta refused to divulge any details on where the player could end up before deadline day on September 1.

“He’s a very emotional player. Remember when he did all the gestures on the pitch. I am not going to talk about any speculation,” Arteta said.

“If there is any speculation about our players it is a good sign, it means we attract attention and they are doing a good job.”

Lewis-Skelly’s future

The England international, who can feature at both left-back and in midfield has been offered to clubs ahead of the transfer window closing.

Amongst those sides are top-flight rivals Manchester United and Chelsea. Clubs had already been made aware of Lewis-Skelly’s availability earlier in the summer.

However, fresh contact was made following Arsenal’s signing of Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazil midfielder joined the club from Newcastle United for £75million on Saturday.

Lewis-Skelly has four years remaining on his current deal in north London after signing a new contract last summer.

Having graduated from Arsenal’s famed Hale End academy, he has already made 75 appearances for the club.

Of those, 20 came in the Premier League last season as the Gunners won their first title for 22 years.

Having played 62 minutes from the start against Como, Lewis-Skelly will hope to feature in Sunday’s Community Shield.

Arsenal face Manchester City in the season’s traditional curtain-raiser at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday.

Lewis-Skelly has started all four of his side’s pre-season fixtures so far this summer.

As well as his goal against Como, he also provided an assist for Max Dowman in a 4-1 win over Girona earlier month.
