Phillies’ Don Mattingly shares Bryce Harper injury update after Cardinals game
The Philadelphia Phillies received a bit of a scare when Bryce Harper appeared to favor his knee on Wednesday. The veteran slugger had been dealing with some issues following a move to the outfield after the MLB trade deadline. It’s certainly concerning, but manager Don Mattingly isn’t overly concerned at this time.
“It gets you to the point where if he’s hurt or hurting, we probably just sit him and let him get healthy. He’s saying he’s not hurt, it’s no different than before. We just go to the medical every day, he tells us he’s available, and we make a decision,” the interim Phillies manager said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Harper began experiencing issues with his knee last month. However, the issues have grown a bit more pronounced since moving back to right field. For now, he is not concerned with the pain he has been experiencing.
“The more I’ve ramped it up, I’ve gotten sore. I think the more I play, I think it’ll help me — just getting in condition more. I feel like I’m in spring training again, trying to get through everything,” the Phillie star said, via The Athletic.
Fans held their breath on Wednesday, in particular, due to his final at-bat. It appeared that he had some issues with his knee during that plate appearance against the St. Louis Cardinals. However, he told the media that he was merely trying to gain his composure again, according to Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Lochlahn March.
The Phillies are battling for a playoff spot and are set to begin a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins starting on Thursday night.
