Cowboys rumors: Tom Pelissero does not shut down George Pickens trade after signing tender

Wide receiver George Pickens recently agreed to sign his franchise tag tender with the Dallas Cowboys. While the belief is that Pickens is likely to remain with the club through at least next season, NFL insider Tom Pelissero isn’t ruling out the possibility of a trade still coming to fruition, reigniting rumors in Dallas.

During a guest appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Pelissero believes that the plan is for the 25-year-old wideout to play for the Cowboys next season. However, if a team were to make a strong offer, he claims Jerry Jones and the front office may opt to trade Pickens instead.

“What’s more likely at this point is George Pickens plays on the tender,” claimed Pelissero. “Because we know that the Cowboys have already said, ‘We’re not gonna do a long-term deal. We’re not gonna talk about it. He’s gonna play on the tender, he’s a valuable piece to the team,’ and from everything that I’ve been told for several months, that’s largely true. But there is certainly a possibility if someone offers the right package for George Pickens [a trade could be made].”

Ultimately, based on Pelissero’s comments, George Pickens would prefer a long-term contract over remaining on the franchise tag. However, he is open to playing for the Cowboys next season and letting things play out as they will. But a trade could be exactly what gives the four-year veteran the deal he wants.

Pickens had the best season of his career in his first year with the Cowboys. He ended the 2025-26 campaign with career highs in receptions (93), yards (1,429), and touchdowns (9).
