Clayton Kershaw had just 1 disappointment in Dodgers broadcasting booth debut

When the Los Angeles Dodgers players took the field to face off against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, they had a long-time teammate and future Hall of Famer in the booth calling the action in Clayton Kershaw.

Making his debut calling the game in the booth for Spectrum SportsNet LA, Kershaw watched a flurry of offense early on, then a lull for the middle innings before the Dodgers attempted to field a thrilling comeback in the ninth inning, only to come up short and go down in Atlanta 4-3.

Discussing what he saw of his former team and what it was like to call a game as millions watched, Kershaw noted it was “a lot of fun,” even if there was one aspect of the evening that kept it from being perfect.

“I had a blast. A lot of fun to talk baseball, obviously,” Kershaw noted. “I wish the Dodgers could have won my first one, but to watch Glass throw, to watch our guys play some good baseball, it was really fun to be here.”

Stuck in a 3-3 standstill from the fourth inning on, Tanner Scott gave up the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Ozzie Albies singled into center to score Matt Olson. Down to their last inning but with the top of the order ready to go, Shohei Ohtani hit a triple on the second pitch he faced but was ultimately stranded, with Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts both getting out before Max Muncy was intentionally walked to put the game on the line for Saturday’s hero, Tommy Edman. With men on the corners, Edman flied out on his fifth pitch, leaving Kershaw with a fun experience but no rousing celebration in the Dodgers dugout afterward.
