Cheryl Reeve gives Lynx ‘big time learning lesson’ in win over Valkyries
Cheryl Reeve found an important lesson to teach her Minnesota Lynx side despite them beating the Golden State Valkyries 87-84 on Thursday night.
Reeve has been the Lynx’s coach since 2010, getting them to the mountaintop four times throughout her tenure there. She continues to shine as one of the best head coaches in the entire league, often keeping Minnesota firm in the conversation of championship contention.
Reeve has gotten to give Minnesota players a lot of valuable lessons over the years. And following their latest win over Golden State, the head coach found another bit of advice to give to her players after the game.
“This is where I throw the team under the bus, all five players on the floor knew we were fouling and we didn’t get it in. They didn’t get it done, and that’s okay because she missed, had she made it, that would have been tough to swallow going to overtime. Big time learning lesson,” Reeve said, via reporter Andrew Dukowitz.

How Cheryl Reeve, Lynx performed against Valkyries
Cheryl Reeve and the Lynx escaped with a close victory over the Valkyries. However, the lesson of being smart while being up by three points will greatly benefit them moving forward.
Four players scored in double-digits for Minnesota in the win. Olivia Miles was the star of the night with 28 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and three blocks. She shot 9-of-16 from the field, including 8-of-11 from beyond the arc. Courtney Williams came next with 17 points and seven rebounds, Kayla McBride had 14 points and eight rebounds, while Natasha Howard provided 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Minnesota improved to an 8-2 record on the season, controlling the top spot in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Dallas Wings and the Las Vegas Aces at the moment.
Rolling with six consecutive wins, the Lynx will look forward to their next matchup. They remain at home when they host the Seattle Storm on June 6 at 1 p.m. ET.
