Cavs’ Evan Mobley as defiant as ever with Pistons reminder for Knicks series
The Cleveland Cavaliers are not pressing the panic button despite starting at a 2-0 deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks.
Not when the best-of-seven series is shifting to Rocket Arena, where the Cavaliers are 6-1 in the playoffs.
The Wine and Gold had a huge chance to win in Game 1, but they inexplicably blew a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost in overtime. Cleveland played well in Game 2, but New York pulled away in the fourth quarter.
The Cavaliers survived the Detroit Pistons in the second round despite dropping the first two games, and Evan Mobley is optimistic that they can do the same versus the Knicks.
“We’re in the same place as last round. So, the good thing is we’ve been here before. It’s nothing we haven’t fought through and prevailed. So, we just got to win these next two at home and keep it moving,” said Mobley in the report from ESPN’s Jamal Collier.
The former Defensive Player of the Year has been productive against New York, averaging 14.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 blocks. But he might need to be more aggressive on offense to give the Cavaliers a better chance versus the Knicks.
Mobley only took eight shots in Game 2.
The Knicks did what they were supposed to do at home. Now, it is the Cavaliers’ turn to protect their backyard and make it an even series.
Donovan Mitchell echoed Mobley’s confidence.
“This isn’t our first time facing adversity. We’ve been through two Game 7s, so being down 2-0 is not the biggest challenge. It’s just something we just reached,” said Mitchell, who had 26 points and four rebounds in Game 2, in the same report.
Game 3 is on Saturday.
