Cardinals’ Jordan Walker gets real on parent’s expectations after Home Run Derby win
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker fully put himself on the map by winning the 2026 Home Run Derby. Still, his parents have even higher expectations of him.
With his mother going to Harvard and father M.I.T, Walker’s parents understand what it takes to climb the educational mountaintops. When the outfielder is done with baseball, he may even be asked to take on the same pursuit, via Talkin’ Baseball.
“I’m sure they’ll still want me to get one at some point,” Walker said. “They enjoyed it yesterday and I’m enjoying it right now.”

While a PhD may be in Walker’s future, his present is looking plenty bright as is. He took down Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber, at Citizens Bank Park to earn the Home Run Derby title. Baseball fans won’t forget that moment anytime soon.
But Walker earned his spot on the All-Star team for a reason. Over his first 93 games of the season, the outfielder is hitting .294 with 22 home runs, 74 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. He leads all of baseball in RBIs, ranks 10th in home runs and 16th in batting average.
Entering the 2026 campaign, Walker had struggled to live up to his former top prospect hype. He has already blown past his career-highs, proving to be a key piece of the Cardinals’ lineup. As St. Louis builds their roster of the future, Walker is proving why he should be a part of it.
The outfielder will continue relishing in his Home Run Derby win throughout the All-Star break. On and off the diamond, Walker knows his parents always want the best for him.
