Brewers make history vs. Yankees not seen in Jacob Misiorowski’s lifetime

The Milwaukee Brewers blanked the New York Yankees 6-0 on Friday night at American Family Field behind Jacob Misiorowski’s phenomenal start, marking their first shutout of New York since September 2, 1992. The win also ended a five-game losing streak against the Yankees. Milwaukee moved to 20-16 while New York dropped to 26-13.

Misiorowski allowed two hits and no runs while striking out 11 and walking two across six innings. He reached a peak velocity of 103.6 mph and generated 22 pitches at 102 mph or faster. In the first inning alone, all 10 of his pitches were fastballs at 102.4 mph or higher, with multiple readings above 103 mph, including five of the fastest pitches ever recorded by a starter since tracking began in 2008. He completed 95 pitches and improved to 3-2, finishing his fifth double-digit strikeout performance and increasing his season tally to 70 strikeouts in 44 innings.

The Yankees managed only two hits off Misiorowski, both by Jose Caballero. New York’s debutant Spencer Jones went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a walk, while Aaron Judge and other hitters were repeatedly overpowered by high-velocity fastballs.

The Brewers scored four runs in the second inning off Max Fried, who allowed a leadoff single to Gary Sanchez followed by back-to-back walks to Andrew Vaughn and Luis Rengifo. RBI singles from Brandon Lockridge and Sal Frelick, a Joey Ortiz fielder’s choice, and a Jackson Chourio RBI hit built the early lead. Fried surrendered five runs, while also issuing three walks and striking out five over six innings. Milwaukee tacked on two more runs later, including an RBI single from William Contreras, to complete the 6-0 victory.

Brandon Lockridge contributed two RBI singles and raised his batting average to .294 with 12 RBIs before leaving after crashing into an unpadded left-field wall while attempting a catch. He was carted off and diagnosed with a deep laceration expected to sideline him for an extended period.

Joey Ortiz cracked his first extra-base hit of the season with a double. Shane Drohan closed the game with a three-inning save, allowing one walk and striking out three while retiring nine of 10 batters faced for his first career save.

Before the game, the Brewers inducted Baseball Hall of Famers CC Sabathia and the late Dave Parker into their wall of honor.
