How Heat’s Giannis, Bam Adebayo are influencing Davion Mitchell’s 2026-27 goals
With the Miami Heat’s new-look team featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, one piece that will prove to be crucial is point guard Davion Mitchell. As Mitchell has gone to work in Greece with his new Heat teammate, Antetokounmpo, he spoke about his goals for the upcoming season.
Speaking to the media on Friday during a back-to-school event at a Walmart in Miami, there’s no denying that many people are getting to see the dedication that Mitchell is putting in this offseason. His daily workouts usually consist of starting at sunrise and going into the evenings, as some have gotten a kick out of seeing Mitchell always carrying a basketball with him, even sometimes wearing a Heat jersey.
Talking about some of the goals he wants to take care of, it’s the chemistry with Antetokounmpo and Adebayo.
“I’m just trying to be the best player I can be,” Mitchell said, according to The Miami Herald. “Obviously, trying to build a chemistry with Giannis. Obviously, people see me in Greece. Building chemistry with Bam [Adebayo], obviously seeing those things.”

Mitchell has stood out as a top-tier defender for the Heat, along with an impressive assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.2 in his first full season with the team after being traded from the Toronto Raptors in the multi-team deal featuring Jimmy Butler in Feb. of 2025. In that season, he averaged 9.3 points and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three-point range.
The 27-year-old was crucial to the fast-paced Miami offense last season and now looks to excel next to Antetokounmpo, whom he called a “winner,” as he went into the workouts with him in Greece.
“For me, I was just trying to learn the places I need to be on the court, what makes him more comfortable,” Mitchell said. “I mean, obviously, he’s been in the league for so long that he knows how everyone’s going to guard him and he knows how everyone’s going to guard me.”
At any rate, Mitchell will look to continue to improve in the offseason.
