Braves’ Walt Weiss gets brutally honest after difficult loss vs. Nationals
The Atlanta Braves had a rough weekend, losing two out of three games against the Washington Nationals and dropping their record to 36-18 as a result. Inclement weather in the Atlanta area affected multiple games in this series, and the Braves’ bats were not able to heat up during the team’s 2-1 loss on Sunday.
After the game, Braves manager Walt Weiss got 100% real on what he felt went wrong in the contest.
“It’s tough to figure out sometimes when we were playing so well offensively. The tough thing is, we pitched well enough to win the series. We really did. We had a hard time putting any together. I liked the way we pitched,” said Weiss, per MLB.com.
Many were skeptical when the Braves hired Weiss from inside the organization to replace Brian Snitker this past offseason, as opposed to going out and bringing in someone from outside the team walls.
However, the results have been nothing to sneeze at thus far, as Atlanta currently sits with the best record in the MLB, despite the series loss to Washington.
The Braves have been hitting the ball at an elite level all year, although one wouldn’t know that from their struggles this weekend. One of the few down spots for Atlanta this season has been the play of Austin Riley, the franchise stalwart who has seen his batting percentages dip dramatically in 2026, after things were already starting to head that way last season.
Meanwhile, Ronald Acuna Jr. still hasn’t fully rounded back into his MVP form either, but thankfully, the Braves’ pitching has blown away expectations with its performance so far this year.
The Braves will next take the field on Tuesday evening on the road vs the Boston Red Sox.
