Braves’ Spencer Strider gets massive update after previous injury scare
As the Atlanta Braves put star Spencer Strider on the injured list (IL), the pitcher was set to have an MRI after he left last Friday’s 7-5 loss to the New York Mets due to right elbow inflammation. With the Strider getting an MRI for the Braves, he gets a huge update regarding the injury scare.
According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the MRI showed that Strider didn’t have “any ligament damage,” and it’s just the inflammation. More positive news with Strider is that he appears not to need surgery, though the next steps and timetable for the 27-year-old are yet to be determined.
“Strider’s MRI didn’t show any ligament damage, just inflammation. There aren’t any current concerns about him needing surgery. Today’s visit with Dr. Meister (performed surgery in 2024) will just provide an indication of what the next steps will be. Meister will provide a timetable for recovery. By tomorrow, we’ll have an idea of when Strider could begin throwing again,” Bowman wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Braves’ Walt Weiss on Spencer Strider’s struggles
There’s no denying that Strider’s season with the Braves this year has been frustrating, as injuries have plagued him. Besides the current situation, he missed time with an oblique strain sustained in spring training. Atlanta manager Walt Weiss spoke last Friday about Strider’s challenging 2026 campaign.
“He’s been through a lot … in the past few years trying to work his way back,” Weiss said, via MLB.com. “And we’ve seen some glimpses of it. He’s done a nice job for us this year, and there was a lot of hope. We saw him in the outing he had in L.A., [he] was just lights out. He looked just like old Spencer.”
So far this season, Strider has a 5.31 ERA with 46 strikeouts and a 4-2 record in eight starts, as it remains to be seen when he returns for the Braves, with more news likely coming very soon, per Bowman’s report. At any rate, Atlanta starts a new series against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night, as the team is currently 46-25, which puts them first in the NL East.
