Bob Myers’ revelations hint at his ultimate power in 76ers front office after Daryl Morey firing

The Philadelphia 76ers recently made headlines when general manager Daryl Morey was let go by the franchise after their playoff loss to the New York Knicks. Now temporarily running the organization is former Golden State Warriors exec Bob Myers, who is the president of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment.

Now, more information has come to light on Myers’ state of mind as to the next person to lead the front office.

“Bob Myers says at a Sixers press conference in the wake of Daryl Morey’s dismissal that he will communicate “five to seven days a week” with the new head of basketball operations hired to succeed Morey. The goal, Myers says, is to have a hire in place for the June 23-24 draft,” reported NBA insider Marc Stein on X, formerly Twitter.

Myers also listed relationships with players,  salary cap, and analytics knowledge, and many other factors as things to consider for the next hire.

“I’m looking to find someone that can check as many of those boxes as possible, but also someone who is able to say [what they don’t know],” he said, per Derek Bodner of PHLY Sports on X, formerly Twitter. “I hope they check all those. But they won’t. That doesn’t exist. So how do we support them?”

“I view taking the next few weeks, not sure how long it will be, to identify a day-to-day leader here, who will have a lot of authority,” he added.

Overall, it would seem that Myers has a significant influence within the 76ers’ current front office in determining who the next general manager will be.

That person will be tasked with figuring out how to turn this Philadelphia team, which completed an epic 3-1 comeback against the Boston Celtics but was then swept by the Knicks, into a legit contender.
