Adley Rutschman still hasn’t seen Red Sox win after another loss to Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox swung for the fences at this year’s trade deadline when they acquired Adley Rutschman from their division rivals, the Baltimore Orioles. In the midst of a winning streak at that time, this was Boston’s declaration to the league: they were ready to compete. With Rutschman debuting two days ago, fans were expecting to see the team start to surge again.

Unfortunately, the Red Sox are seemingly coming back down to Earth. After being arguably the hottest team in the league in the past months, Boston is suddenly facing some serious struggles this past week. Rutschman’s debut came after the team endured a three-game losing streak. The hope was that Rutschman would help solve some of their issues and put them back in their winning ways a week prior.

Well, that didn’t happen. Rutschman has yet to win a game as a member of the Red Sox, as they dropped their fifth game in a row against the Toronto Blue Jays. This is the third straight game that Boston has lost to Toronto, dropping the first two games of their four-game series as well.

Things seemed to be manageable at first for the Red Sox. Their offensive woes continued in this game, recording just one run through eight innings. However, they suffered a disastrous inning in the bottom of the eighth. What was already a bad inning after two Blue Jays got on base became even worse after a baffling decision to walk Andres Gimenez to load the bases. From there, the Blue Jays racked up a total of five runs in the inning, turning the game from a deadlock to a 6-1 game.

The Red Sox were able to find some semblance of form at the top of the ninth, driving in three runs in the final frame. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as Louis Varland closed out the game to send the Red Sox away.

Rutschman’s second game for the Red Sox was less eventful than his first outing for the team. He did not record a single hit and walked just once in the game. Slotting in as one of the cleanup hitters for Boston, Rutschman has struggled to make an impact so far. That being said, the star catcher is working his way back from an injury that kept him out for an entire month. Many are expecting Rutschman to recover his form soon.
