Aroldis Chapman drops honest admission on future with Red Sox

It’s hard to deny that Aroldis Chapman is one of the most dominant closers in all of baseball. The 38-year-old Red Sox star is nearing the end of his career, but is still shutting down games as well as he ever has. But with his career winding down, the question of where he will end his career is becoming more and more relevant.

Chapman had a resurgent 2025 season and has followed up nicely in 2026. In two seasons with the Red Sox, he has recorded an unbelievable 1.51 ERA and 59 saves. He is one outing away from exercising the vesting option in his contract with Boston for the 2027 season. If the veteran had it his way, Boston is where he would like to see his career end.

“I hope so,” he said when asked about finishing his career with the Red Sox, via MassLive reporter Chris Cotillo. “I’m a little bit tired of going team to team, so I hope so.”

Before joining Boston, Chapman was a bit of a journeyman. He had stints with the Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Kansas City Royals prior to signing with the Red Sox in 2025.

It was an unprecedented stretch for the future Hall of Fame closer. Chapman is in the midst of his 17th season in MLB. Through the first 13 years, he played for just two teams: the Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees. The lack of stability is certainly a jarring change of pace.

Chapman is hoping to find the stability he had early in his career. It seems he has found it with the Red Sox. The fit with him in Boston could not be going better for him and the team. And it appears likely to continue at least for the 2027 season.
