Azzi Fudd sounds off on 1st WNBA practice with Wings

Just a week after the 2026 WNBA Draft, No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd is off to a solid start with the Dallas Wings. After her first WNBA practice, Fudd discussed how her role on the team is starting to take shape in her young professional career.

“I’m here to do whatever the team needs me to do,” Fudd said. “It’s only Day 1, but I got the chance to have the ball in my hand a little bit, got a chance to come off, be on the wing. So whatever the team needs me to do, I’m going to do it.”

Fudd capped off a storied college career at UConn earlier in April and entered the W in elite company, becoming the seventh Huskies player to be selected first overall in league history. She’s now reunited with last year’s No. 1 overall pick in Paige Bueckers, as the two former UConn stars look to reignite their chemistry once again and help the Wings improve on their 10-34 record from 2025.

“I feel like there’s still so much left on the table and so much unknown,” Fudd said about her and Bueckers’ on-court connection after the draft. “I can’t wait, obviously, to play with her again, but to play with every single one of them.” Although she’s only a week into her WNBA tenure, Fudd already seems to be bringing her potential to fruition.
