Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar perfectly sums up Game 4 Wild blowout

The Colorado Avalanche are now one game away from the Western Conference Finals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Avalanche took a 5-2 victory over the Wild in Game 4, taking a 3-1 series lead.

After the game, Avalanche blueliner Cale Makar was asked about finishing strong against the Wild, and the defenseman gave a perfect response, per Guerrilla Sports.

“I think, for us, we really wanted this one,” Makar said. “We had our legs, especially in the third. Even though they had a couple of chances, we got right back on our horse.”

The Wild took the lead in the first period, on a Danila Yurov powerplay goal, but Nazem Kadri would tie the game in the second period on the man advantage. In the third, Ross Colton broke the tie, giving the Avalanche the lead. Still, the Wild tied the game on a Nico Sturm goal. Just over two minutes later, Parker Kelly broke the tie again, and then Nathan MacKinnon and Brock Nelson would add empty net goals to win the game.

Just as Makar noticed that the team wanted the game, Avalanche coach Jared Bednar also spoke of their determination after the contest, per Tracey Myers of NHL.com.

“For me, the biggest change from last game (a 5-1 loss in Game 3 on Saturday) to this game is we were a more determined group,” Bednar said. “To a man, just more determined and committed to playing the right way. I didn’t hate our details last game, but I thought that we got outcompeted in that game a little bit. And tonight, we kind of swung it back in our favor and guys went to work. Relentless all over the rink. We just looked quicker.”

The Avalanche will now look to close out the series with the Wild on Wednesday night, as they return home for Game 5.
