Athletics’ Luis Severino lands on injured list after exiting Yankees game
The Athletics have watched Luis Severino struggle with staying healthy. Which includes Severino dealing with an oblique strain late in 2025. Now his latest ailment forced him to leave early against the New York Yankees.
The A’s made this announcement following his Friday injury.
“The Athletics placed right-handed pitcher Luis Severino on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain and recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Kelly from Triple-A Las Vegas,” the franchise posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
Severino has landed on shaky ground amid his future with the Athletics, including receiving a trade suggestion in Aug. 2025. The Athletics even signed him for $67 million back in Jan. 2025. Although he managed to lift Team Dominican Republic to the World Baseball Classic title during March.
“Sevy” pitched just one inning against the Yankees. New York pounded three hits against him including one home run. Severino allowed four runs too while striking just one Yankee prior to his MLB injury.
He owns a 2-6 overall record on the hill this season. Opponents have delivered 61 hits against him and scored 33 runs total. He’s allowed nine home runs this season in his 12 starts.
The 32-year-old struggled in 2025 as well during the team’s first season away from Oakland and landing at West Sacramento for their home games. Severino ended his season 8-11 as a starter; surrendering 162 hits with 93 runs and 16 homers.
Severino wasn’t on the hill during Ben Rice’s epic four-hit night for the Yankees. Rice did blast a home run as he went 4-of-5 at the plate to lead the 8-2 win.
