Jets RB Chip Trayanum taken to hospital after scary neck injury vs. Giants
The New York Jets will hope for the best news following running back Chip Trayunum’s scary injury during the team’s preseason finale against the New York Giants on Friday night.
Trayanum is preparing for the rookie campaign of his NFL career. He entered the league after six years in college, signing with the Jets as an undrafted free agent. He made the preseason squad, hoping to make the cut in the rushing attack before the regular season gets underway.
The rookie rusher showed flashes, even scoring a touchdown in the first quarter. However, he went down with a neck injury at halftime as team officials escorted him to a hospital. According to league insider Adam Schefter, there is a positive update on the running back’s health.
“Jets say RB Chip Trayanum is on the way to the hospital due to a neck injury. He is awake, alert and has movement of his extremities,” Schefter wrote.
How Chip Trayanum, Jets played against Giants
Chip Trayanum’s touchdown ended up being the only score the Jets had throughout their preseason finale against the Jets. They lost 23-6, seeing preseason action conclude with a 1-2 record.
The Giants did an excellent job keeping the Jets quiet. Conceding the touchdown in the first quarter, the Giants responded by shutting out the Jets for the remainder of the game.
Trayanum led the rushing attack with 12 carries for 37 yards and a touchdown while catching two passes for 25 yards. Meanwhile, Cam Camper and Connor Hulstein combined for five receptions for 47 yards.
They will attempt to improve on their 3–14 record from 2025 and make the playoffs after a 15-year absence. They also intend to end their 23-year AFC East title drought and put an end to 10 consecutive losing records.
The Jets’ campaign will go underway on the road. They take on the Tennessee Titans as kickoff commences on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. ET.
