Aaron Judge, Juan Soto share a moment during Subway Series clash

It’s common knowledge that the Yankees and Mets aren’t always on the best of terms. After all, the famed Subway Series is about New York supremacy above all, so anything goes. However, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto are able to duke it out while maintaining a strong sense of decorum.

During the first game of the series on Friday, Judge and Soto greeted each other with all smiles, per MLB.

Judge and Soto were once teammates on the Yankees in 2024. That year, both were the dynamic dominant duo in the batting order at two and three. Judge won the American League MVP with a .322 batting average, 180 hits, 58 home runs, and 144 RBIs. Soto finished with a career high of .288 batting average, 166 hits, 41 home runs, 123 runs scored, and 328 total bases.

In the process, they became the third pair in franchise history to hit 40+ home runs in a season collectively. The others were Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in 1927 and Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle in 1961.

The Yankees went to the World Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. Afterward, Soto became a free agent. In December 2024, he signed a historic 15-year $765 million contract with the Mets.

Today, the Yankees are 27-17, 2.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East. The Mets are 18-25 and in last place in the National League East.

Judge is batting .268 with 42 hits, 16 home runs, and 30 RBIs. Soto is batting .269 with 28 hits, five home runs, and 13 RBIs.

The Subway Series will go from May 15 to 17 at Citi Field in New York. As of now, the Yankees hold the edge with an 83-69 record over the Mets.
