Wolves were let’s face it, dreadful in the Premier League last season, but did put together 11 draws with a fair few in the latter part of their campaign.

But they finished bottom with just three wins from 38 games so there’s a lot of work to be done ready to face the new Championship season, which is renowned for being quite unpredictable and rather relentless.

Blackburn have stayed put

Blackburn have not been back into the Premier League since they were relegated in 2012.

That’s 14 years away bouncing just the one time into League One and staying firmly in the Championship with a range of finishes in that time.

But the most recent and most relevant of those is last year, where they finished 20th, just a few points from safety.

The 2024/25 season they finished just outside the play-off places by two points, following a flurry of late wins but a final one would have seen them take their chances in the most valuable prize in football.

Can they turn things around this year finally? If they do they’ll likely need to start this season off well and facing a team that were in the Premier League just a few weeks ago is going to be tough.

Wolves will not want to follow the same path as Blackburn, but have been up and down in recent times in and around the top-flight.

They are second favourites, behind West Ham to win the Championship and as such are worthy favourites to win this at a heavy odds-on price.

Wolves on a mission

Wolves have retained the majority of their players, with just three leaving; Joao Gomes to Aston Villa, Matt Doherty (free) to Sheffield United and Tolu Arokodare on a free to Ajax.

They have made four signings to replace those though, with a fantastic bit of business to secure a profit from Gomes at around £35million while acquiring Rafiki said and Ladislav Krejci for around £15million.

Add to that their free transfers of Premier League and experienced EFL players Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez they make a very interesting threat against most Championship sides with this stacked squad.
