1 Giants starting pitcher Dodgers must consider trading for in 2026

The Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be buyers ahead of the 2026 MLB trade deadline. They will be connected to many players around the MLB world. In fact, the Dodgers are already being linked to players. LA already made a trade as well, as the ball club acquired outfielder Alek Thomas from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

One team the Dodgers do not always trade with is their rival, the San Francisco Giants. Sure, a deal can happen between the ball clubs, but the teams surely do not love the idea of helping each other out.

With that being said, could the Dodgers make a trade with the Giants this year?

San Francisco may need to sell at the trade deadline. The Giants could potentially bounce back, but they are currently just 18-25 and in fourth place in the National League West standings. San Francisco will have a decision to make at the trade deadline.

While the chances of ace Logan Webb — who is injured at the moment — being traded are quite slim, there is another starting pitcher who could be made available if the Giants sell. Robbie Ray will be a player to monitor over the next couple of months. He could catch the Dodgers’ attention.

Why Dodgers must consider Robbie Ray trade

Before we discuss his potential fit with the Dodgers, let’s take a look at Ray’s performance.

The two-time All-Star has performed well once again in 2026. Ray currently holds a 3.04 ERA across nine starts. The southpaw also has 49 strikeouts in 50.1 innings on the mound.

The Dodgers are quite familiar with Ray. He recently pitched against the Dodgers on Wednesday. While Ray did not have his best outing — four runs (three earned) across 4.2 innings — the Dodgers know the he is a good pitcher.

Pitching depth is not a problem for Los Angeles, but they are always looking for upgrades. Additionally, a number of starters on LA’s roster have battled injury trouble. Pitchers such as Roki Sasaki and Emmet Sheehan have struggled, while Tyler Glasnow is currently injured.

Bringing in a starter such as Robbie Ray would give the Dodgers’ rotation a boost. LA wants to do everything it can to win its third consecutive championship, and making a trade for a star such as Ray would only help matters.

Is a Dodgers-Giants Ray trade realistic?

Would the Giants seriously consider trading one of their best pitchers to their biggest division rival?

The Dodgers fear no shortage of star prospects. If San Francisco wants to receive a valuable trade return, they would need to at least see what the Dodgers may be willing to offer for Ray.

Additionally, Ray will be a free agent after the season. Landing with the Dodgers in a trade would not mean that Ray would spend the rest of his career in Los Angeles. Sure, a contract extension may be a possibility, but the 34-year-old may want to see wha kind of offers he can get in free agency during the offseason.

So, is a Dodgers-Giants Robbie Ray trade realistic?

It would not be shocking if Los Angeles at least reached out to San Francisco. The Dodgers could use another reliable starting pitcher and Ray will be among the most valuable starters before the trade deadline if he is made available. Perhaps one could argue that Ray ending up with the Dodgers this season is not likely, but it is a realistic possibility.
