Yankees starting rotation just received attention-grabbing praise from Mark DeRosa

Winners of five straight, the New York Yankees sit one game behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL East lead. A sixth straight win would, at least for the moment, put them in first place. As the Yankees look to defeat the Athletics for the second straight day, their starting rotation received some head-turning praise. According to MLB Network analyst Mark DeRosa, whose take was shared by the network on X (formerly Twitter), New York’s rotation could reach history-making status.

“If they’re healthy, name a better rotation,” remarked DeRosa. “You are going back to Halladay and Cliff Lee, back to the [1990s] Braves.”

At the moment, the Yankees’ starting rotation is almost at full strength. Co-aces Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon have recently returned following injuries that forced them to miss the season’s first few weeks. Will Warren has continued his growth, already matching his WAR total from 2025 after just two months. Ryan Weathers has been a strong trade acquisition. Of course, we can’t forget about Cam Schlittler. The sophomore righty has turned into a bona fide ace of his own, currently leading the AL Cy Young race.

Once the Yankees’ fourth ace, Max Fried, returns from the IL, the other 29 MLB teams will have a very hard time matching up starters one through five. New York would have to deploy Warren or Weathers in the bullpen, which would only strengthen that unit in theory. Meanwhile, there are whispers that the Bronx Bombers could trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. A Yankees October rotation featuring Cole, Rodon, Fried, Schlittler, and Skubal? Well, that is a possibility that could be all too real by August 4th. What type of praise would DeRosa and the rest of the MLB world give New York in that scenario? It’s fun to speculate, especially as the deadline nears.
